This partial home remodel in Durham, NC draws from mid-century modern design to create a bright, connected space for a young family. The original layout felt dark and closed off, so we opened the kitchen to the living room to bring in more light and improve flow. Now, the space feels open, airy, and perfect for entertaining. Custom walnut cabinetry adds warmth and craftsmanship, while organic textures and clean lines keep the overall feel simple and relaxed. The result is a thoughtful home that balances style and function with ease.

We preserved the warmth of the orginial mid-century style by using custom walnut cabinetry and crisp white quartz countertops to create a clean, modern contrast.

This mid-century modern remodel in Durham draws inspiration from the natural surroundings of the North Carolina landscape. The reeded island introduces rich texture, while the split-level staircase wallpaper—featuring a pine pattern—reflects the trees surrounding the property. These organic details bring warmth and a strong sense of place, all while maintaining the clean lines and simplicity typical of mid-century modern design.
