our story
House of Maevie
House of Maevie is a residential interior design studio based in Raleigh, North Carolina, specializing in homes that feel layered, personal, and deeply lived in.
We approach each project with a balance of creativity and careful planning, guiding our clients through everything from early concept development to construction details and final installation.
Our work is rooted in the belief that a home should feel beautiful in a way that’s personal — comfortable enough for everyday life, but thoughtful enough to feel special for years to come.

Susanne Ordonez
founder & creative director
I’ve always been drawn to homes that feel collected over time — spaces with warmth, texture, and a sense of history. The kinds of rooms that feel lived in, personal, and quietly beautiful rather than overly designed.
Before founding House of Maevie, I studied Art History and Interior Design and spent several years working across residential design and commercial architecture. Those experiences shaped the way I approach interiors today: balancing beauty with function, and creating homes that feel both intentional and comfortable to live in.
In 2021, my family and I relocated to Raleigh, where I founded House of Maevie with the goal of creating a more personal, detail-oriented design studio. One where clients feel supported through the entire process, and where thoughtful design is given the time and care it deserves.
Today, our studio works on high-end residential projects throughout North Carolina and beyond, guiding each home from early concept development through construction and completion. We’re deeply involved in the details, but just as focused on how a home ultimately feels when you walk into it.
At the end of the day, I want the homes we design to feel personal — layered, inviting, and deeply connected to the people living in them.

The questions we hear most
Frequently Asked Questions
The questions most often asked before starting a project with House of Maevie.
01
Is House of Maevie a luxury interior design studio?
Yes — though we describe our work as considered and bespoke rather than luxury for its own sake. Our clients aren’t looking for a status symbol. They’re looking for a home that reflects who they actually are, designed with real care, real expertise, and a process they can trust. Our projects tend to serve homeowners who are ready to invest meaningfully and work with a designer who will take their space as seriously as they do.
02
What makes House of Maevie different?
House of Maevie was founded on the belief that a well-designed home should feel like it could only belong to you — not like a showroom, a trend, or someone else’s vision. Founder Susanne Ordonez holds degrees in both Interior Design and Art History, with training and influences drawn from design cultures across the US and Europe.
The studio was named Best Interior Design Firm 2026 by Main & Broad. What we hear most from clients isn’t about recognition — it’s that the process felt personal, the outcome felt inevitable, and the home finally felt like theirs.
03
What's the difference between an interior designer and an interior decorator?
Interior decoration focuses on the surface layer of a home: furniture, paint, accessories. Interior design plans the entire built environment: space planning, cabinetry, millwork, finish selections, lighting, and the coordination it takes to bring those decisions to life. Our Full Service Design covers the complete spectrum, including collaboration with your builders, architects, and trades.
