Meet the Team
House of Maevie is a boutique interior design studio specializing in residential interiors and select commercial spaces throughout Raleigh, Cary, Holly Springs, and the greater Triangle. We design warm, layered interiors with thoughtful details and lasting charm.
Our role goes well beyond selecting finishes. We help clients understand where their investment will matter most, develop a clear plan before construction begins, and navigate the process alongside architects, builders, and trades. From early concepts and technical drawings through construction details and final installation, we stay closely involved so decisions are made in the right order and fewer surprises arise during the build.
Every project begins with listening: how our clients live, what is not working, and what they want their home to feel like. We want the finished home to feel personal, cozy, and collected, with rooms that make everyday life easier and still feel special years from now.

What I love most about my work is getting to know our clients. How they live, what matters to them, what isn’t working, and even the things they’ve simply learned to live with. I want to know where the shoes pile up and where the groceries land before we start talking about the backsplash.
I grew up in an old merchant’s house in Germany, which is probably where my love of historic homes began. I’ve always been drawn to traditional craftsmanship, the character of older houses, and rooms that feel collected rather than overly designed. I earned degrees in art history and interior design and spent several years working in residential design and commercial architecture in Portland, Oregon, before founding House of Maevie in 2021.
My background taught me to see composition, proportion and detail. Raising three children taught me to look at a home differently, too. Beautiful matters, but so does how a home works for the people who live in it. The best homes do both. They’re comfortable, collected, full of personality, and never too precious to actually live in.

Is House of Maevie a luxury interior design studio?
Yes, though I’d describe the work as bespoke rather than luxury for its own sake. My clients aren’t shopping for a status symbol. They want a home that reflects who they actually are. That takes real care, real expertise, and a process you can trust from the first meeting on. Our projects tend to suit homeowners who are ready to invest meaningfully and want a designer who takes their space as seriously as they do.
What makes House of Maevie different?
I started House of Maevie on one idea: a well-designed home should feel like it could only belong to you. Not like a showroom, a trend, or someone else’s vision. I’m Susanne Ordonez, and I hold degrees in both Interior Design and Art History. My training and influences come from design cultures across the US and Europe.
Main & Broad named us Best Interior Design Firm 2026. That’s lovely, but it isn’t what clients tell me afterward. What they say is that the process felt personal, the outcome felt inevitable, and the home finally felt like theirs.
What's the difference between an interior designer and an interior decorator?
Interior decoration covers the surface layer of a home: furniture, paint, accessories. Interior design plans the whole built environment. Space planning, cabinetry, millwork, finish selections, lighting, plus the coordination it takes to get all of it built. Our Full Service Design covers the complete spectrum, including working with your builders, architects, and trades.
