Mature trees surround this South Raleigh home, so it already had a beautiful sense of privacy and character. What it didn’t have was flow. The client wanted somewhere that felt open, connected and genuinely built for entertaining, and the existing plan was working against all three.
The kitchen was the problem and the opportunity. We opened it completely to the living and dining spaces around it, and the large island now sits at the middle of the house, sized for people to gather around rather than pass by. That one move changed how the whole ground floor works.
Everything after that followed the same three rules. Maximize the light. Improve the flow. Carry one design language from room to room. Earthy, a little masculine, layered with character.
A moody billiard room, deliberately darker than the rest of the house. A room built for evenings should feel like one.
A custom home bar with floating shelves. We planned it around how they actually host, not around a showroom photograph.
The primary bathroom is my favorite room in the project. Rift-cut white oak cabinetry against crackled blue tile, with a black arched mirror and a marble hexagon floor. The blue does what a neutral tile never would. It makes a functional room feel designed.
And a sage green laundry room, which is the room people are most surprised we spent time on. Brass hardware, white oak floating shelves, plantation shutters, and storage planned around what actually gets stored there. You use a laundry room every day. It should be worth looking at.
Whole-home projects fail when you design each room on its own, and the house ends up reading as a series of decisions instead of one idea. So we settled the layout, the palette and the material language up front. Then each room got to express it differently.
