The clients loved the intimate scale of their kitchen and wanted it to function better without losing the character that was already there. Working within the existing footprint, we made small, thoughtful updates that increased storage and made each detail count. We preserved the antique buffet and original artwork, then brought a vintage chandelier out of the client’s closet and gave it a new home above the island. Inspired by an old kitchen table, the charming custom island brings color, character, additional workspace, and cleverly concealed storage. Because a small kitchen naturally contains so many straight lines, we repeated gentle curves in the hood, decorative toe kicks, hardware, and open-shelf corbels to soften the room. Inset cabinetry, honed soapstone, and burnished brass complete a kitchen that feels cozy, personal, and especially inviting in the evening.
