Set in Forest Park, a historic neighborhood near downtown Raleigh, this cottage had beautiful original details and little of the storage modern life requires. The front door opened directly into the living room, with no natural place for coats, shoes, bags, or the things a family carries inside each day. We designed custom inset entry cabinetry to create that missing function, carefully considering its proportions, profiles, and finishes so it would feel as though it had always been part of the home. Upstairs, two arched dormers became window seats with deep drawers beneath them, adding another thoughtful layer of storage. Warm walnut and softly painted cabinetry connect the new work to the cottage’s original casings, brass door plates, and faceted glass knobs. The home feels more updated and easier to live in, without disturbing the historic character that made it special.
